Angelina Jolie now the highest paid in Hollywood
• For the her latest starrer Marley and Me, Jennifer Aniston allegedly took home some $8 million plus.
• Anne Hathaway, now all grown up, was apparently given a $5 million paycheck for Bride Wars. This is expected to go up though after the good feedback she got of Get Smart and Rachel Getting Married.
• Blond bombshell Katherine Heigl has definitely made the transition from TV to the big screen, with an arrangement to be paid $6 million or 6% of the gross (whichever is higher) , this on top of the big bucks she is raking in per episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
• Another blondie is on the list, Kate Hudson was paid around $7 million for My Best friend’s Girlfriend.
• Cameron Diaz received $10 million for her performance in What Happens in Vegas.
• The former queen of the list, the adorable Reese Witherspoon was paid $14 million for Four Christmases.
• The Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts, though with less movies, still received a hefty $15 million plus salary for Duplicity to be shown next year.
• Angelina Jolie, the new highest paid actress in Hollywood, was paid more than $15 million plus for the box office hit Wanted. She is now doing an action movie where is will apparently be paid around the same amount packaged with other generous deals.
After reading that, looking at your measly monthly paycheck will never be the same again. Ok, now wipe all that drool and go on with your life. Hahaha…

bruce willis' case against a malaysian prince is resolved
Willis' attorney, said that there was an amicable settlement among the parties.
On November 20, Willis sued Prince Imran Ibni Tuanku Ja'afar and Datuk Vinod B. Sekhar, principals of environmental technology company The Petra Group, in which he had invested.
The lawsuit said that Willis had been told by Sekhar that the actor was to profit from an IPO of Petra subsidiary Elastomer Technologies, which had been set for the third quarter of 2008. The IPO did not push through and Willis tried to take his money out of the company.
Ja'afar, Sekhar and The Petra Group repaid Willis $1.1 million of his original investment, but Willis said when he filed his lawsuit that the remaining $900,000 was not returned, despite false assurances to the contrary given to him.

Yul Servo named Best Actor in Brussels for “Torotot”
He is doubly happy since his other film, Brutus, was named Best Asian Film during the 35th edition of the Brussels International Independent Film Festival.
It was heard that his Best Actor award comes with a cash prize of 200 Euros but the trophy will be shipped to him by December. Through the help of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Yul and Direk Maryo J. delos Reyes were able to attend the film fest, which took place from November 4 to 9.
In Torotot, Yul plays a man who suspects that his wife (Precious Adona) is having an affair with another man. His best friend (played by Baron Geisler) had previously committed a crime of passion when he murdered his wife (played by Maui Taylor).
Produced by Viva Digital, Torotot is directed by Maryo J. delos Reyes, who is also Yul’s manager. The director of Brutus, Tara Illenberger, also attended the film fest to accept the award of Best Asian Film. Shot in Oriental Mindoro, this Cinemalaya 2008 entry is about Mangyan children who transport illegal logs by floating them down the Lisap River. Yul is cast as the doctor-turned-NPA leader who accompanies the two children.
More than 25 countries participated in the 35th edition of the Brussels IFF. This competition, which started in 1974, has already recognized Yul in the past.
In the 2002 edition of the Brussels IFF, Yul shared the Best Actor award with Joel Torre for the five-hour film Batang West Side. This Lav Diaz film also bagged the Best Picture trophy that year.
Paris Hilton and Benji Madden split
Hilton publicist Alanna McCarthy has announced that the two "remain very good friends." She wouldn't say more.
Hilton and Madden have been photographed wearing rings with each other's initials. The 27-year-old socialite also joined her boyfriend when he toured with his rock band, Good Charlotte.
The 29-year-old Madden plays guitar, and his identical twin brother, Joel, is the lead singer.
The heiress has nothing bad to say about Madden, 29.
"He's such an amazing man," she told Seacrest. "He's my best friend. He's been so great to me, so loyal. He is an incredible person, and we will always be really close. We'll see what happens in the future.
"I'm still in love with him," she added.
The reason for the break?
"We're both working so much. I've been traveling, he's been working nonstop in the studio with his brother on their new record," she said.
In several interviews, Paris has declared that she is so much in love with Benji and that she has indeed found the love of her life... makes you wonder whether she is just pushing it just because it would have turned out to be sooo cute, her ending up with Benji, while BFF Nicole Richie is with his twin brother Joel.
oh well...

Laurence Fishburne : CSI's New Man
After some time, CSI has finally got a new man on the team, and that man is Laurence Fishburne. yep, the matrix guy. He plays a college lecturer and former pathologist who is focused on why people commit acts of violence. i know, i know, he's got nothing similar to Gil Grissom, but maybe that's exactly what they want. a fresh character. maybe the producers are actually doing everything that they can to stay clear of any comparison between the two.
what can i say about their choice. i am skeptical. i am so used to grissom's scholarly, mysterious approach. i assume fishburne's character will be street smart and arrogant, because that is how he usually plays his character. anyway, unlike others, i still have faith in the CSI franchise. i'm sure the powers that be made all the necessary considerations and they felt he is the best choice.
i'm giving him a chance...

A Lighter, Paler Beyonce?
Actor Bernie Mac Dies at 50
Bernie Mac blended style, authority and a touch of self-aware bluster to make audiences laugh as well as connect with him. For Mac, who died Saturday at age 50, it was a winning mix, delivering him from a poor childhood to stardom as a standup comedian, in films including the casino heist caper "Ocean's Eleven" and his acclaimed sitcom "The Bernie Mac Show."
Though his comedy drew on tough experiences as a black man, he had mainstream appeal — befitting inspiration he found in a wide range of humorists: Harpo Marx as well as Moms Mabley; squeaky-clean Red Skelton, but also the raw Redd Foxx.
Mac died Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital, his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles. She said no other details were available.
"The world just got a little less funny," said "Oceans" co-star George Clooney.
Don Cheadle, another member of the "Oceans" gang, concurred: "This is a very sad day for many of us who knew and loved Bernie. He brought so much joy to so many. He will be missed, but heaven just got funnier."
Mac suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.
Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama.
Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine, Mac joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language. Obama took the stage about 15 minutes later, implored Mac to "clean up your act next time," then let him off the hook, adding: "By the way, I'm just messing with you, man."
Even so, Obama's campaign later issued a rebuke, saying the senator "doesn't condone these statements and believes what was said was inappropriate."
But despite controversy or difficulties, in his words, Mac was always a performer.
"Wherever I am, I have to play," he said in 2002. "I have to put on a good show."
Mac worked his way to Hollywood success from an impoverished upbringing on Chicago's South Side. He began doing standup as a child, telling jokes for spare change on subways, and his film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans comedy "Mo' Money" in 1992. In 1996, he appeared in the Spike Lee drama "Get on the Bus."
He was one of "The Original Kings of Comedy" in the 2000 documentary of that title that brought a new generation of black standup comedy stars to a wider audience.
"The majority of his core fan base will remember that when they paid their money to see Bernie Mac ... he gave them their money's worth," Steve Harvey, one of his co-stars in "Original Kings," told CNN on Saturday.
Mac went on to star in the hugely popular "Ocean's Eleven" franchise with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, playing a gaming-table dealer who was in on the heist. Carl Reiner, who also appeared in the "Ocean's" films, said Saturday he was "in utter shock" because he thought Mac's health was improving.
"He was just so alive," Reiner said. "I can't believe he's gone."
Mac and Ashton Kutcher topped the box office in 2005's "Guess Who," a comedy remake of the classic Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn drama "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" Mac played the dad who's shocked that his daughter is marrying a white man.
Mac also had starring roles in "Bad Santa," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Transformers."
But his career and comic identity were forged in television.
In the late 1990s, he had a recurring role in "Moesha," the UPN network comedy starring pop star Brandy. The critical and popular acclaim came after he landed his own Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show," about a child-averse couple who suddenly are saddled with three children.
Mac mined laughs from the universal frustrations of parenting, often breaking the "fourth wall" to address the camera throughout the series that aired from 2001 to 2006. "C'mon, America," implored Mac, in character as the put-upon dad. "When I say I wanna kill those kids, YOU know what I mean."
The series won a Peabody Award in 2002, and Mac was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy. In real life, he was "the king of his household" — very much like his character on that series, his daughter, Je'niece Childress, told The Associated Press on Saturday.
"But television handcuffs you, man," he said in a 2001 Associated Press interview before the show had premiered. "Now everyone telling me what I CAN'T do, what I CAN say, what I SHOULD do, and asking, `Are blacks gonna be mad at you? Are whites gonna accept you?'"
He also was nominated for a Grammy award for best comedy album in 2001 along with his "The Original Kings of Comedy" co-stars Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric The Entertainer.
Chicago music producer Carolyn Albritton said she was Bernie Mac's first manager, having met him in 1991 at Chicago's Cotton Club where she hosted an open-mike night. He was an immediate hit, Albritton said Saturday, and he asked her to help guide his career.
"From very early on I thought he was destined for success," Albritton said. "He never lost track of where he came from, and he'd often use real life experiences, his family, his friends, in his routine. After he made it, he stayed a very humble man. His family was the most important thing in the world to him."
In 2007, Mac told David Letterman on CBS' "Late Show" that he planned to retire soon.
"I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit," Mac told Letterman. "I missed a lot of things, you know. I was a street performer for two years. I went into clubs in 1977."
Mac was born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough on Oct. 5, 1957, in Chicago. He grew up on the city's South Side, living with his mother and grandparents. His grandfather was the deacon of a Baptist church.
In his 2004 memoir, "Maybe You Never Cry Again," Mac wrote about having a poor childhood — eating bologna for dinner — and a strict, no-nonsense upbringing.
"I came from a place where there wasn't a lot of joy," Mac told the AP in 2001. "I decided to try to make other people laugh when there wasn't a lot of things to laugh about."
Mac's mother died of cancer when he was 16. In his book, Mac said she was a support for him and told him he would surprise everyone when he grew up.
"Woman believed in me," he wrote. "She believed in me long before I believed."
Mac's death Saturday coincided with the annual Bud Billiken Parade in Chicago, a major event in the predominantly black South Side that the comedian had previously attended.
"It's truly the passing of one of our favorite sons," said Paula Robinson, president of the Black Metropolis National Heritage Area. "He was extremely innovative in putting his life experiences in comedic form and doing it without vulgarity.
"He was an ambassador of Chicago's black community, and the national black community at large."
Associated Press writers F.N. D'Alessio, Daniel J. Yovich, Caryn Rousseau and Carla K. Johnson in Chicago contributed to this report.

madonna after botox?
i am a madonna fan. let me just get that out to the world. i love her songs. i don't really like her as a person, but much to my hubby's dismay, i do have her cd's and i just can't resist tapping my feet or just swaying to the beats of her music. and i heard she writes most of her music.
she was not made up in this pic and you can actually see how old she now looks... and skeletal. and some are saying that she just had her face done, facelift or botox, this after she had her boobies done.
when she performs onstage it seems she hasn't aged at all, and yet now looking at her pic, i guess it was all done with smokes and mirrors.
scary.

review :: a very special love
to be honest, i have been apprehensive to watch this movie. being a movie buff, i love most movies i watch, but i've had my share of disapppintments when it comes to pinoy movies, quija being one of them. in my experience, pinoy movies are just combinations of formulaic scenes taken from different successful movies, and sometimes the end result isn't at all pretty.
i have been a fan of john lloyd since his tabing ilog days, i have seen his acting prowess a number of times and so i was sure that he will give a solid performance. while i have always loved sarah's singing, i was pleasantly surprised that she is now a lady acting in a major love story movie. what surprised me even more is that she is actually good! not OA at all! she is so charming and endearing. her performance is very raw and heartfelt. yep, i expected the worse from her and she proved me wrong. hehehe
the storyline however was as i expected it. nothing new there. typical pinoy love story, with the compulsary drama, comic relief, kilig moments and yes, even the ever-present-in-pinoy-movies musical production number. i really wish pinoys will soon come up with something original, something out of the ordinary, not the usual fare we've gotten used to.
anyway, it was a feel good movie, and hubby and i did come out of the movie house pleased and content... the movie's theme song etched in my memory, a terrible case of LSS.

William Petersen's run on 'CSI' coming to end
Petersen has agreed to return for occasional guest appearances and will remain a "CSI" executive producer, but his run as an original cast member will end this coming season, executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar said Tuesday.
The air date for his final episode, the season's 10th, has yet to be determined but probably will be at the beginning of 2009, the producers said. The series debuted in fall 2000.
A number of familiar characters will return in the episodes building up to Grissom's departure, among them his former colleague and flame Sara Sidle, played by Jorja Fox; the Miniature Killer and sexy Lady Heather.
"Who better to turn to when you're a scientist in crisis?" Mendelsohn asked jokingly of Heather (Melinda Clarke).
The decision to leave was Petersen's, the producers said, declining further comment. A call to Petersen's publicist was not returned Tuesday.
The actor had taken a break during the 2006-07 season to perform in a play, with Liev Schreiber stepping in as a visiting investigator.

Why Angelina Jolie Named Her Twins Knox and Vivienne
The actress, 33, gave birth to twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France on Saturday.
"Vivienne is the French version of the ancient Latin name that means 'alive,'" Satran explains. A common English variation is Vivian, which was the name of Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman.
Except for Rosie O'Donnell's daughter Vivienne, the name "has not been on the fashion scope in the U.S.," Satran adds.
Jolie and Pitt's choice of Knox will boost its popularity among new moms, Satran predicts, "the same way they have with all their other children's names."
Knox -- Pitt's grandfather's middle name -- also "matches" big brothers Maddox and Pax as a name that ends in X, Satran points out.
As for middle names, Marcheline was the name of Jolie's mother, who died of cancer last year, while Leon is Jolie's great-great grandfather's name.
Satran gives Jolie and Pitt credit for their name choices.
"I applaud Brad and Angelina for being truly creative in a way that many other parents -- celebrities and the rest of us -- claim they want to be but aren't brave or individualistic enough to really achieve," she says.

Review :: Hancock
Actors: Will Smith, Jason Bateman, Charlize Theron, Eddie Marsan
This is a story about the current day not-so-super hero. I must admit, I've always had mixed feelings about Will Smith as an actor. No doubt in my mind, he is a good actor, the only problem is his attitude. He often comes off as brash and arrogant to me. It’s as if he knows that he is good, and wants to rub it in your face. Anyway, I obviously got over that since I went and saw his movie, hoping for the best, and good thing too because I got what I wanted! I enjoyed the movie! I was in fact surprised to see Charlize Theron in the movie. She is one of my favorite actresses ever!
Anyway, back to the movie. Smith does a fine job. This hardened, drunken, seemingly uncaring, superhero is perfectly portrayed by smith, well except when you look into his eyes… they seem too soft for the haughty superhero. As Hancock warms, Smith becomes better cast.
Jason Bateman is also perfect for the role of naïve marketing specialist, wanting to change the world in his own little way. He was so charming! And so sweet! He is the only one willing to give Hancock a chance, even giving him a personality makeover. What can I say except “Good job!” heehee…
Charlize plays Jason’s doubting wife, wary of Hancock from the very beginning, for a reason as we find out further in the movie. As always, she is a pretty sight in the movie.
I was amazed once again about the story line of the movie. Unique. Why can’t pinoys think of a movie with such uniqueness instead of always settling for a pinoy adaptation of an American/Korean/Japanese movie?
I found the movie too short. I expected more. I found the explanation as to where hancock came from lacking. I wanted to know more. It felt short. I felt like the writers told me “that’s that, accept it”. Oh well.
I liked the conflict between Hancock and Ray, and how it was resolved.
The movie was violent but in a good kind (is that possible?) typical of superhero flicks. It had heart, it emphasized the human need for family, contact, love and connection. It had funny moments too, as you’d expect on Will Smith movies.
What did I think of the movie? Three sunshines!
i love movies
so why did i start a new blog just for this purpose? i dunno. i guess i am tired of reading reviews on the newspaper bashing the latest commercial movie showing on the theaters only to find out that it was ok on my book when i do finally get to see it.
i just want to share my views about a certain movie... old or new. cult fave or not. blockbuster hit or dust gatherer in the videoshop.
i just want to share the thoughts of a simple, uneducated, eager movie fan about a movie flick i just watched.
'nuff said.
